Root Canal Therapy

What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.

At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Root Canal Symptoms

If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

What happens after treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.

How much will it cost?

The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

Dr. Patel did a great job with my root canal. Hopefully I will not need many more of these but if I do Dr Patel is the one I will go to. Overall the procedure went very well with minimal discomfort and it was done quickly and efficiently. Thanks Dr Patel!

Dr. Patel and his receptionist Jackie were both exceptionally attentive. Dr. Patel needed to see me for additional root canal treatments because I had a particularly difficult tooth, and he was patient and thorough with me each time. He kept my financial needs in mind and never made me feel like I was a burden for needing extra treatments. He answered all of my questions knowledgeably, and Jackie always greeted me with kind conversation that made my initial fear about a root canal quickly fade away. I would highly recommend him to anybody who needs endodontic treatment.

Dr Patel & his office staff was a great choice! I had to have a root canal and my regular dentist recommended them, and I am glad he did! Staff was exceptional! And Dr. Patel was the best. I get really stressed out with dental work, and he and his staff made me very comfortable. Especially with the earphones & music. Helped immensely. If I ever need any other work done (and I hope I don't) I will definitely go back.

Dr Patel and his staff came in early to give me relief from extreme tooth pain. Despite needing 6 numbing injections for this one very angry tooth the procedure was so quick and easy. I had immediate relief and it’s been perfect ever since. I have had root canals before but always with regular dentists. I will NEVER make that mistake again. I will be calling Dr Patel in the future. The doctor and his staff are true experts as well as being so personable and fun. HIGHLY recommend!!

Patient Review By Katrina C

Dr. Patel had done some root canals for me previously which were done painlessly and I have had no further problem. On this occasion, I had to see Dr. Patel for retreating some root canals done by another endodontist years ago. My general dentist also made him aware of some additional implant and bridge work that was in the plans. After Dr Patel took scans and evaluated the situation, he suggested that we may want to consider an adjustment to the planned implants and bridgework instead of trying to save the teeth with a surgical re-treatment of the failed root canals. He could have just done the re-treatment and made a little money, but instead was more interested in the best overall outcome for his patient. His compassion and care for his patients comes first and for his high ethical standards as well as his excellence as and endodontist, I would highly recommend him and will continue to see him for treatment myself in the future.

Dr. Patel was an incredible endodontist. This was my first root canal and I wasn't sure what to expect. He made me feel extremely comfortable and talked me through the entire procedure. He was quick, yet gentle. I greatly appreciated his follow-up phone call after hours the day I got my root canal. His staff was super friendly and efficient too. Patient Review By Natalie H

Wow! This was my first root canal, and I was very impressed. I don’t think I was even in the chair for 30 minutes. Dr. Patel was great! I was able to put in my earbuds and listen to music while he did the procedure, which was not bad at all. And thanks to Jackie who told me about an insurance with no waiting period, I was able to save several hundred dollars.

Patient Review By Robert C

This review is for my wife and I. She had a recent traumatic experience with another procedure and was nervous about this appointment. Dr. Patel and staff were very good at both putting us at ease and with their technical expertise that resulted in healing not only of oral symptoms but in restoring confidence in having work done for these kinds of procedures. Highly recommend.
