Root Canal Therapy
What is a root canal?
- A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed to alleviate tooth pain and save the tooth from being extracted. Well over 14 million procedures are performed every year.
- This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.
- At the center of your tooth is the pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that serves to form the tooth’s root.
- Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures.
- Root canal treatment involves removing the diseased pulp from the root canal which is then thoroughly cleaned/shaped and sealed. The actual roots themselves are left intact and not removed at all. If the roots were removed, you would no longer have the tooth.
- Success rates for root canal treatment occurs in 90-95% of cases. Most treatment can be completed in one visit but occasionally two visits may be needed depending on the complexity of the case.

Root Canal Symptoms

What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will it cost?
The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an implant or a bridge.

I had had great difficulty finding an endodontist after my dentist discovered an issue. I had tried several endodontists and got "we don't take your insurance". The ones recommended by the insurance company had horrible reviews. My dentist then recommended Highlands Ranch. The scheduler was extremely helpful and sympathetic. Confirmed my insurance, gave me an estimate and scheduled me all swiftly and efficiently. When it was time to go in the got me in settled and ready really well. Dr Patel did an amazing job, it was painless, fast and easy. Just got back from my finish with my dentist. The work was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

One of my tooth’s was painful and I had a crown done on this tooth in the past. I called my dentist and she recommended Dr. Patel’s office. I called the next morning to see if they received the referral from my dentist. They promptly said they had an opening that day. I was so happy since I was in quite a lot of pain. Lisa the receptionist was very kind over the phone and when I arrived to my appointment. Julie Dr. Patel’s was professional and caring. Dr. Patel was very kind and professional. I was impressed that my appointment was only around 30mins long. They are fast and efficient. My dentist said I needed a root canal and recommended an Endodontist. Very expensive. After checking with more than 30 Endodontists, I came across Dr. Patel. His reviews were excellent and I agree with every one. Lisa and Christianna were pleasant, helpful and skilled. Doc Patel followed up with me the same evening, checking on my condition and offering assistance if I needed pain medication. I didn’t. “Root canal” conjured up nightmarish expectations but that did not happen. The procedure was painless and performed quickly. Dr. Patel and his assistant, Julie, immediately put me at ease and engaged in light conversation that made the whole experience seem casual and “ normal”! Lisa on office staff was polite, efficient and knowledgeable in insurance information. Every aspect of this practice contributes to an overall positive experience. But that’s not the end of it…Dr. Patel called me in the evening to see how I was doing…who does that?? I have no hesitation in highly recommending this practice…great people!

My sixteen year old broke off about half of a front tooth. We were referred to Dr. Patel by a friend. I called his office at 8 am with my son in a lot of pain. By 1:15 pm the same day, Dr. Patel completed the root canal. My son commented that he barely felt anything. Dr. Patel and his staff were awesome. If you need this type of services, just call his office. And yes, I am a real customer and my son his patient.
