What is a root canal?
- A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed to alleviate tooth pain and save the tooth from being extracted. Well over 14 million procedures are performed every year.
- This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.
- At the center of your tooth is the pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that serves to form the tooth’s root.
- Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures.
- Root canal treatment involves removing the diseased pulp from the root canal which is then thoroughly cleaned/shaped and sealed. The actual roots themselves are left intact and not removed at all. If the roots were removed, you would no longer have the tooth.
- Success rates for root canal treatment occurs in 90-95% of cases. Most treatment can be completed in one visit but occasionally two visits may be needed depending on the complexity of the case.

Root Canal Symptoms

What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will it cost?
The cost associated with this procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an implant or a bridge.

Who knew having a root canal could be so painless! Dr. Patel and his staff (Julie and Lisa) are excellent! Getting an appointment was quick was easy, my experience at his clinic was amazing. Dr. Patel explained the procedure and was so gentle and I was in and out in less than an hour. He called later that evening to make sure that I was feeling fine. I never thought I’d say this about a root canal, but this was truly a great experience. Dr. Patel, Lisa, and Christianna were wonderful from start to finish. They made sure I could be scheduled quickly, and the procedure itself was so comfortable that I actually fell asleep. Dr. Patel took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and explained the why behind it all, which made me feel completely at ease. i gave 5 stars in all categories. it was such a wonderful experience for a root canal. another dentist started the procedure, but was not able to complete the job. Dr Patel's staff welcomed me were so concerned about all i went through, that they actually worked with the other dentist to get me some of my money back. i totally did not expect that nor would have thought about it on my own. Dr Patel finished the job and his explanations and mannerisms made me feel really comfortable. i wish he performed regular dental work as i would switch to him in a second.

It may seem overkill but I really enjoyed the most incredible care at the Highlands Ranch office. Lisa in particular was outstanding in her ability to get me in quickly and take care of all the various insurance and billing issues that always emerge. Christiana and Dr. Patel were fantastic in the actual operating area and the care was better than I would have expected. The cherry on top was the personal telephone call I received from Dr. Patel the evening after my procedure. He was calling to check in on me and ask how things were going. I was not aware that anyone provided that kind of care anywhere and it was astounding that he took the time to ensure I was well. I would recommend this office to anyone who needs their services. This is my second procedure with Dr. Patel. He is an excellent communicator, and makes you feel comfortable when undergoing your procedure. The staff are all great, and very pleasant to work with. There is a tremendous amount of empathy with their interactions, both from a medical and fiscal perspective. It's clear to me, they are a compassionate and caring team, that works great together.
